General Information Advanced Studies in EBP: Graduate, Pre- & Post-Doctoral, Post Conference Formal graduate coursework in evidence-based practice is offered in conjunction with the 2006 Summer Institute. Coursework is provided through The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Significant portions of the coursework is completed as distance education. Attendance at the Institute is requisite and students pay course tuition. Course enrollment is limited and instructor permission for enrollment is required. Advanced studies are also offered as a post conference. Pending funding, a limited number of scholarships may be awarded to selected students. Previous participants will enjoy building EBP skills through the new content presented each year. Methodist Healthcare System Lectureship -- James B. Conway, MS, Senior Fellow, Institute for Healthcare Improvement; Senior Consultant, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; Board Chair, Health Care Dimensions Hospice, receives the 2006 Methodist Healthcare System Lectureship, presenting the closing keynote, The Force for Patient Safety-Healthcare Leaders. As administrative leader for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, he broke from convention to establish a revolutionary culture of safety and quality. His work in quality is extended through his role as senior fellow for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. The Methodist Healthcare System Lectureship is awarded to Mr. Conway for his extraordinary work in advocating compassionate improvement processes
ACE Lectureship -- Margaret (Peg) Allen, MLS-AHIP, Library Consultant, CINAHL Information Systems and Hmong Health Education Network, receives the 2006 ACE Lectureship, presenting the plenary, Teaching Clinicians to Fish: Library Skills for EBP and the concurrent session on Libraries-Cochrane and Beyond. In her role as Library Consultant, she guides CINAHL Information Systems. She is an award-winning expert on nursing information access, a longstanding user of the ACE Star Model, and a leader within the Medical Library Association. The ACE Lectureship is awarded to Ms. Allen in recognition of the vital connection she makes between library science and EBP.
VA Lectureship -- Beth A. Collins Sharp, PhD, RN, Acting Director, Evidence-Based Practice Center Program, Center for Outcomes and Evidence, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, receives the VA Lectureship, presenting the Institute keynote, The Power Triad of Evidence, Quality, and Outcomes. Dr. Sharp serves in the Center for Outcomes and Evidence of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). In the eyes of the AHRQ director, Dr. Sharp is "indispensable to the new Effective Health Care Program." As a sought-after speaker and frequent author, she promotes health services research for quality improvement. The VA Lectureship is awarded to Dr. Sharp in recognition of her key role in evidence-based practice. |
