The Program Committee invites submission of abstracts for consideration. You are invited to submit abstracts consistent with the theme of the Institute, Best Practice: Improving Quality. Second Annual
Summer Institute on Evidence-Based Nursing
BEST PRACTICE: IMPROVING QUALITY
San Antonio, TX • July 10-12, 2003

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION RECEIPT DEADLINE: MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2003

You are invited to submit for consideration, abstracts consistent with the theme of the Institute. Topics reflective of evidence-based projects are sought. The following topics are particularly germane:

  • Benchmarking projects
  • Research utilization projects
  • Quality improvement projects implementing best practice
  • Synthesis of research evidence to guide clinical practice
  • Integration of best evidence with clinical expertise to guide practice
  • Translation of research into practice recommendations, toolkits, protocols, etc.
  • Impact of practice change on outcomes
  • Health services research

Oral and poster presentations will be competitively selected on the basis of scholarship, scientific merit, and relevance to the theme of the Institute.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION

  • Limit the abstract to 200 words (text, excluding bibliography)
  • Use the following subheadings in describing the project:
    • Problem: Clinical problem, need for change in practice, and significance
    • Evidence: Description of the evidence used to address the problem, and method used to obtain and appraise evidence (including bibliography)
    • Strategy: Strategy for deriving practice guidelines from the evidence
    • Practice Change: How the practice change was made
    • Evaluation: Evaluation of the impact of the change, including outcome measure, method and results
    • Recommendations: Lessons learned and recommendations
  • Submit three copies of the abstract (without identifiers) and one cover sheet (available from the website [http://www.acestar.uthscsa.edu/institute/su03.html]) to:

Abstracts must be received by close of business Monday, February 3, 2003

ACCEPTANCE, EXHIBITS, and PUBLICATION

Presenters will be notified of acceptance by March 28, 2003. Presenters will submit conference registration fee, less 10%, for the conference. A special event scheduled the first afternoon of the Institute will feature the Posters, with Poster Presenters in attendance. Poster exhibition will continue through following day of the Institute. Posters are to fit a corkboard 6 ft. wide and 4 ft. high. Presenters will be responsible for setting up and taking down posters at the designated times. Oral presentations will be scheduled for 20-30 minute sessions.

Accepted abstracts will be published on the Institute web site.
