This bibliography was produced by the Academic Center for Evidence-based Nursing (ACE). Recent research literature was searched using the bibliographic databases Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) Reviews-Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and MedLine using the search term "smoking cessation." The clinical practice guideline and the Surgeon General's report are available for either downloading or for order at: www.surgeongeneral.gov under Tobacco Cessation and Tobacco Report, respectively.

Systematic reviews are summaries of all available research on a particular topic and are valuable in determining the state of the science on a given topic. A number of systematic reviews are included in this bibliography. One clinical practice guideline is included.

A. Clinical practice guidelines are developed from research summaries and provide a most authoritative recommendation for clinical care. The following clinical practice guideline was issued in June 2000 and represents a significant step in clinical treatment of tobacco dependence.
